URC 2019

The University Rover Challenge (URC) is the world's premier robotics competition for college students. Held annually in the desert of southern Utah in the United States, URC challenges student teams to design and build the next generation of Mars rovers that will one day work alongside astronauts exploring the Red Planet. My team (Team RoverX) ranked 22nd out of the 130 teams that participated in the competition!

My role in the team

As part of Team RoverX, I was responsible for all the mechanical design, fabrication and assembly of the Rover Kratos. The mechanical team worked on-

  • Designing and fabricating a 6 DOF robotic arm system

  • Redesigning a completely new rocker bogie suspension system

  • Developing a highly lightweight single layered Chassis

  • Redesigning the current wheel system to include the motor inside the wheel hub

  • Building a safe enclosed space for electronics and batteries

Part of the URC team, the rest couldn't make it to the competition :(

This was the first time we completely fabricated the suspension and chassis!
